Rollergirl name (if you don’t have one, make one up): Frosty Peaches

Story behind your name: When I first started derby I was with my boyfriend of a few years. He used to call me “Peaches” because my mom lives in Georgia. He passed away about 6 months after joining derby (from a drug overdose) and I wanted to keep that nickname. I thought of “Frosty” because I am up north in Canada and it gave it a bit of a different spin. Now I am known by “Frosty” much more than I am known by “Peaches”, which is actually pretty awesome. Years later, I don’t need to hang on to the memory of being called “Peaches” as much as I once did.

Where you’re from: Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada

Your team (or Favorite team): I am captain of one of our home teams - Valkyries Wrath

Your favorite player: Razorslut (a legacy with the LA Derby Dolls). She has been a friend of mine since before derby, and has always been there for me through thick and thin, derby and non-derby. She is a very generous person and well loved by many people. Smarty Pants from Texas is the other favourite. She was one of the first “big name” skaters I ever met, and she made me feel good as a skater, even though I was absolutely terrible. I still look to her for lots of decisions I make in derby. WWSPD? What would Smarty Pants Do?

Your best derby memory (or something you’re looking forward to if you’ve never been to a bout): That’s a big question! Skating wise I guess it is that I went from literally not being able to stand up in skates, to being a captain of a team.

Specific memory - going into a game I found out there was a girl on the other team that was afraid of me. That’s funny because  I don’t think I am scary. But in the game, she came in to hit me, and I popped my hip into her, so she went flying instead, and then I turned around and blew her a kiss while she was laying on the floor. ahahaha that is so unlike me, but it was kind of amazing!

But the best memories I have are from starting my own derby store: Peach Jam Skates, which has been up and running for over a year now. It’s amazing to dedicate your life to something you love, even though it can be very stressful!
